For dedicated athletes, it’s all about gaining the edge. In training. In competition. And when injuries do happen, the more optimal and efficient the injury rehabilitation program, the sooner athletes can return to the arena.
No matter their sport, athletes are constantly looking for an edge. To shave a second or two here or there. To jump a millimeter higher. And they’ll do anything to achieve their goals: try new supplements, hire expensive trainers with avant-garde workout method, you name it.
Most athletes, though, overlook a fundamental thing that costs nothing and can improve performance far faster, and far more effectively than any newfangled diets and training methods:
It’s a no-brainer, isn’t it? The body needs energy move. It follows then that running faster and longer requires more energy. And a good night’s sleep can do wonders for our energy levels. Several recent studies have examined the effect of sleep patterns on the performance of athletes in various sports. The overwhelming majority of evidence shows that consistent, plentiful sleep has a positive effect on things like coordination, motor skills, reaction time, form, and speed.
So, as you look for ways to gain an edge and increase your speed, take a look at these six ways you can improve your sleep patterns and wake up stronger, faster, and speedier in the morning. Continue reading “How Does Sleep Affect Speed?”

This week, we’re heading back to the land down under for some serious story-time from one seriously speedy Aussie runner. You may recall Martin Cooper from our previous spotlight piece on his rock star PT, Stephan Venter. Well, his blurb about how Stephan and AlterG helped him to overcome injury and achieve mountain running glory made me more curious than a monkey named George as to the details of his inspiring journey. Luckily, in addition to Martin’s harrier capabilities, he is also quite the master of the written word, and he enthusiastically agreed to share his story with us, even as he was in the midst of an altitude training block. What a guy! So, gather round, everyone, and give Martin your full attention, as he takes you away to a world of speed, strength, and really really steep hills. Continue reading “AlterG in Aussieland: The Martin Cooper Story”
This is a wonderful and inspiring story that we received from Amber Fatone, an avid runner who uses the AlterG at Finish Line PT in New York. Continue reading “Using the AlterG to Conquer the NYC Marathon”
